Concept
The practice — rational and unavoidable — of weighting a piece of evidence by how much the receiver trusts its source. In O’Connor & Weatherall’s models this is the core mechanism of social belief: no one can verify everything first-hand, so trust in sources does the work. It is also the seam propaganda exploits — manufacture or buy credibility and the weighting carries false evidence as readily as true.
