Concept

O’Connor & Weatherall’s central result: a community of agents who each update on evidence correctly — perfect Bayesians, no irrationality, no gullibility — can still converge on a false belief. False consensus is a property of network structure and the way evidence propagates, not of individual error. It undercuts any diagnosis that locates the problem solely in receivers being careless or stupid.
