Concept

The prescriptive reframe at the heart of Ch 12. Institutions that succeed at the integration project are institutions that survive being out-competed for attention and still deliver preserve-and-retrain — they do not need to displace the captured equilibrium, they need to operate alongside it without being eroded by it. Survival-design and victory-design produce different institutions: victory-design tries to clear the attention market by being more engaging (and gets captured by the market’s selection pressure); survival-design refuses to compete in the attention market and finds funding outside it. The framing matters because almost every modern attempt at integration infrastructure has been victory-designed and has drifted toward engagement-optimization or starved.
